Seems to me, especially from the conan head, that they're doing some non-human additions (when they move the curtain there is no indication of what made his hair curl).

The light is not behind them it's off to the side. The guy with the arm arced above his head is making Conans' hair. Yet there are multiple props thoughout the performance.
